Quantitative recovery of lecithins after argentation chromatography on thin layers.
The lecithins of rat liver are resolved into three fractions by chromatography on a thin layer of silica gel impregnated with silver nitrate. Each of these fractions is placed in a small column containing a cation-exchange resin, and the lecithins are eluted free from silver nitrate. Recoveries average 96%.

In this laboratory exercise we will separate and identify the cations in an aqueous mixture that possibly contains Fe 3+ , Ni 2+ or Cu 2+ salts. The separation will be achieved using Paper Chromatography. Identification of the cations will be affected by simultaneously running separate solutions, each containing a single salt of these ions, through the chromatographic system and comparing the r...
متن کاملDiether Analogues of Lecithins
Considerable interest has developed recently in naturally occurring phosphatides containing ether groups. Two classes of ether-containing phosphatides can be envisaged, i.e. monoether, monoester phosphatides, and diether phosphatides. To date, t,he only monoether, monoester phosphatides known to occur naturally are analogues of phosphatidylethanolamine (1-4) and phosphatidylcholine (5, 6). A ch...

In Paper I of this series (1) a method was described for the paper chromatographic analysis of certain ketonic steroids as hydrazones formed with Girard’s Reagent T. When that technique was applied to the adrenal cortical hormones, however, certain deficiencies appeared. (a) The RI values of the individual steroid-Reagent T hydrazones were not sufficiently different to permit identification. (b...
